Joe
Kosiski of Omaha won the Grand National XV 50-lap late model feature at Boone
Speedway. Joining Kosiski in victory lane is Stacy McDowell, daughter of driver
Del McDowell.
Boone, Iowa (August 4, 1981) – Joe Kosiski of Omaha added his name to the winner’s list of the Boone Grand Nationals when he won the rain-delayed 50-lap late model championship Tuesday on the quarter-mile Boone Speedway.
Kosiski was pushed hard the entire way by Al Urhammer of Radcliffe while Randall’s Bob Hill stayed in contention for most of the race and finish third.
Billy Moyer Jr. of Des Moines was fourth and Jerry Holtkamp of Williams rounded out the top five finishers.
The event had been rained out on its original date of July 21, and was again rained out the following night and a second time was rescheduled.
Most of the cars that were qualified to run in the 50-lap open late model competition returned to compete.
In addition to the headliner, a regular program was run as well. The 25-lap late model feature was won by Ray Kinnetz of Webster City while Greg Roorda of Mitchellville won the sportsman main. Larry Embrey of Granger was the thunder car winner.
