Sedalia, Mo. (August 28, 1954) – Two IMCA world records were set for big car racing on one-mile dirt tracks here today at the Missouri State Fairgrounds.
Bob Slater of Kansas City ran the 20-mile race in 13 minutes and 5 seconds to break the old record of 14 minutes and 8 seconds, set on August 29, 1953, in Sedalia by Jimmy Campbell.
In the 3-mile event in which Bobby Grim of Indianapolis, Ind., was clocked in 1 minute and 55 seconds, bettering the time of 1 minute and 58 seconds by Jimmy Campbell on September 30, 1953 in Nashville, Tenn.
Both records also are all-time marks for the International Motor Contest Association, which sanctioned the race at the Missouri State Fair. The races were conducted by National Speedways, Inc., of Chicago.
Rain which fell Saturday morning made the track slow for time trials but as the racing continued, the racing surface became better and was in first class condition come feature time.
