Bob Lane

Burlington, Iowa (August 6, 1968) – Fifty-three cars, both modified and cadet class, moved from 34 Raceways Park and took charge at the local Des Moines County Fairgrounds on Tuesday night.
Semi-super modified driver Bob Lane made the adjustment very well to the half-mile oval as he won the match race then went on to take the main event as well.
After winning the match race in short order, Lane picked up the pace again in the feature, demonstrating to everyone in attendance his skill behind the wheel and his masterful moves as he made his way to the front of the 15-car field.
He was aided, however, by a first lap wreck involving Cliff Blundy, Roger Clarke, and Jim Dillon. On the restart, Lane immediately moved to second, passing Starman on the third lap, and then continued his torrid pace, passing early leader Johnn Babby on the fourth lap.
No one would close in on Lane from that point, and the Burlington truck driver would sail home the easy winner. Babb hung on to finish second with Bob Ensminger taking third.
“Wild” Bill Arnold had no difficulty, as usual, in copping the cadet feature. Although Arnold started in the sixth row, he plotted a course the short way around the track and was in the lead after only five laps.
