Tipton, Iowa (August 2, 1978) – Dave Birkhofer of Muscatine won the trophy dash, first heat, and the super stock feature at the Cedar County Fair races on Wednesday night.
Birkhofer started on the pole and led green-to-checkered in the 25-lap feature. Mike McGrew of Coal Valley, Ill., was running second in the feature until a power steering belt came loose, knocking out the water pump. The incident turned second place over to Chuck Lukemyre of Tipton with Gus Hughes of Monticello finishing third.
Bruce Current of Maquoketa won the 15-lap sportsman feature over Bill Murray of Hopkinton and Dale Peters of Grand Mound.
