Wisconsin Dells, Wis. (August 5, 1978) – Joe Shear of South Beloit, Ill., powered his Neilsen Camaro to first place in the 50-lap mid-season championship at Dells Motor Speedway. Steve Carlson of La Crosse was the hobby stock mid-season titlist.
Shear edged fast timer Mike Miller of Wisconsin Rapids at the finish line by two feet. In all, 46 late models and 17 hobby stocks signed in for the Saturday night program that marked the halfway point in the season. Fans were treated to five late model heats and two hobby stock heats along with their respective features.
After Jim Back won the trophy dash, heat wins went to Mike Langsdorf, Richie Bickle, Jim Johnson, Rocky Breezer, and Steve Burgess. Bart Reinen won the 15-lap consolation and Bickle came back to nip Steve Moll for the win in the 25-lap semi-main.
Mike Hennesy was fast timer in the hobby stocks with Rich Blackdeer winning the trophy dash. Ollie Christanson and Steve Carlson were heat winners.
