Odessa, Mo. (September 25, 1988) – Butch Miller won his third straight ASA Racing Series event Sunday afternoon, by capturing the rain-delayed Missouri 300 before a crowd of 4,892 at I-70 Speedway.

The event had been rained out on its originally scheduled date one week earlier.

In ASA’s first race here since 1980, Miller took control when previous leader Dave Jackson pitted on lap 219 and went on to a half-lap victory over Dick Trickle.

Miller, who averaged 76.616 miles per hour, earned $8,175 in prize money and awards for his fifth win of the year on the circuit. The race, which included 1 caution periods of 65 laps, featured five lead changes among five drivers.

“This is a tough track, but the car ran excellent through the entire race,” Miller said.

Polesitter Trickle led the first 109 laps before Miller, who started in row two, took over prior to a round of pit stops. Harold Fair took over on lap 124 and remained on top until the next flurry of pit stops which concluded with Tony Raines taking charge on lap 155. Miller was in third at that point.

Jackson ended Raines’ reign on the 186th revolution, but pitted on lap 219, allowing Miller to take over for good.

Trickle faltered in the late stages when a bad tire stagger hampered his efforts, but he still managed to pass Bob Senneker for second place, 28 laps from the finish. Senneker finished third, rounding out the lead lap finishers.
