Mark Mosier accepts his trophy from Dale Gegner after winning the 50-lap
Mississippi Valley Speed Club season championship at the Louisa County
Fairgrounds.
Columbus Junction, Iowa (September 14, 1968) – Mark Mosier of Washington won the first of two 50-lap season championships at the Louisa County Fairgrounds on Saturday night.
The Mississippi Valley Speed Club races each week alternating between the West Liberty Fairgrounds and the Louisa County Fairgrounds.
Finishing right behind Mosier was Bill Newman of Burlington, who started at the rear of the field. Earlier in the evening, during the second heat race, Newman lost a left rear tire. When the feature was getting ready to line up, Newman could not get his car to fire. As the field went around to take the green flag, Newman got his car started and pulled up to the tail end of the pack.
Mel Morris of West Liberty set fast time on the half-mile, with a time of 28.56 seconds. Ron Prymek of Iowa City was second fastest with a time of 29.12 seconds, and Mosier was third at 29.45 seconds.
Bob Kleindolph of Muscatine picked up the win in the trophy dash.
Morris won the first heat while Tom Harris of Iowa City was the second heat winner. Dan Robertson of Muscatine was the third heat winner and Jack Brissey of Burlington won the fourth heat. Ron Hemsted of Lone Tree won the semi-main.
