1989 - Haines Posts Fall Challenge Victory

Oskaloosa, Iowa (September 23, 1989) – Rookie Jeff Haines of Oskaloosa won the IMCA modified feature Saturday night during the third annual Fall Challenge at Southern Iowa Speedway. Bob Hayes of Ottumwa was the IMCA stock car winner and Kevin Kaller of Ottumwa was the surprise winner in the IMCA hobby stock feature.

Haines, who finished seventh in Friday night’s feature, held off Dave Farren of Des Moines and Kelly Shryock of Story City to claim victory in the MCA modified finale. Haines, who competed last year in the IMCA stock car division, won the Southern Iowa Speedway season point title this year.

In the IMCA stock car contest, Hayes took the win over Randy Harter of Jefferson and Mark Mundell of Ottumwa.

In the hobby stock main, Bill Bonnett of Knoxville crossed the finish line first but refused the claim and had to forfeit the win. That elevated Terry Winn of Ollie to the top spot, but he too refused the claim, so Kaller was declared the winner. Second went to Bud Maschmann of Malcolm and Kim Ostrander of Eldon was third.

Friday’s stock car winner was Terry Schroeder of Sigourney while Terry Winn won the hobby stock event.
