Sterling, Ill. (September 10, 1967) – It was a rough go for Verlin Eaker of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, who found his lead in the 50-lap season championship go down the drain on the last go-round as Don Bohlander of Glasford went high in the final set of turns and grabbed the checkered flag by just a few feet at Sterling Speedbowl Park on Sunday night.

For 35 laps, a blanket could have covered the top three of Eaker, Bohlander, and Darrell Dake of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. At times, Bill McDonough of Cedar Rapids, squeezed under the blanket as well.

Dake would finish third with McDonough fourth and Lloyd Ewing of Kewanee rounding out the top-five.

Modified heat winners were Bill Wirges of Princeton, Tom Hughes of Monticello, Iowa, and Ed Bolen of Peoria.
