Jerry Richert won the 20-lap IMCA sprint car feature at the Nebraska State Fair.
Lincoln, Neb. (September 6, 1964) – After a one-day rainout, the International Motor Contest Association sprint cars finally got underway on Sunday afternoon with a huge show at the Nebraska State Fair much to the delight of Jerry Richert.
Richert, the current IMCA point leader, drove like a demon possessed to set fast time, win the first heat, and then sweep the 20-lap main event by 15 car lengths over Don Brown.
Richert, driving the WJW Chevy, leaped into the lead at the drop of the green flag and was never tested. Without three laps under caution when Roger Lane spun, Richert would have surely set a new record for the distance.
Jerry Daniels finished third after a head up charge from his seventh starting position. Greg Weld was fourth and Dale Reed rounded out the top five finishers.
Roy Walker suffered rib injuries when he took out a section of fence during warmups and Harold Leep was uninjured in a similar mishap during his second qualification race.
