1987 – Moyer Tops USAC Field at Santa Fe

 

Billy Moyer Jr. won the USAC dirt late model feature at Santa Fe Speedway.



Hinsdale, Ill. (July 30, 1987) – Billy Moyer Jr., of Batesville, Ark., took the lead on the 26th lap and led the final 14 to capture the 40-lap USAC dirt late model feature win Thursday night at Santa Fe Speedway.

Moyer collected $3,000 for the win that was nationally televised on ESPN.

Ray Godsey drove a strong race to finish second, Dick Taylor was third, Ed Bauman fourth, and Jerry Inmon was fifth.

Inmon led the first 21 laps before slowing his pace. Godsey led the next five before Moyer took over for good.

A total of 57 late models were on hand.

Inmon, Moyer Jr., Johnny Johnson, and Bill Bottoms won heat races, while non-qualifiers were won by Santa Fe regulars Larry Jackson and Ken Pohlman. The semi-main was won by Parker.
