1969 – Davis, Schattschneider Nabs Boone Honors

Boone, Iowa (July 12-13, 1969) – The weather was hot and so was the competition as Boone Speedway held their regular weekly program on Saturday and their mid-season championships on Sunday evening.

Onn Saturday night, Greg Davis of Boone became the fifth different feature winner of the season when he drove his 1956 Ford to victory. Del Stokke of Ames grabbed second and current point leader Gene Schattschneider of Algona was a close third. The victory was the first-ever for Davis, who has been competing at Boone for three years.

Sunday night, Schattschneider, took advantage of his pole position and outdistanced the 18 other drivers to win the mid-season title. Del Stokke finished in the runner-up position for the second straight night with Greg Davis third. The victory was Schattschneider’s fifth of the 1969 season as he continues to lead in the point standings.

Saturday night heat winners were Danny Rueth of Ames, Davis, and Lyle Platter of Boone and Bill Holder of Ames won the trophy dash. Schattschneider won two events, the handicap and consolation.

Heat winners on Sunday night were Jack Vincent of Nevada, Rueth, and Platter, while the B-main went to Stokke. A special event involving the top 15 cars in the point standings saw Bill Holder take the win.
