Independence, Iowa (July 22, 1967) – Chub Liebe of Oelwein took the lead with three laps to go to win the mid-season championship at the Buchanan County Fairgrounds.

Red Droste of Waterloo had led all the way up to the 47th circuit when he was forced to slow due to a broken rear axle. He limped to an eighth-place finish.

Bob Hilmer of Dysart finished second, followed closely by Paul Fitzpatrick of Rochester, Minn. Dave Noble of Blooming Prairie, Minn., last week’s winner, was fourth and Tom Hughes of Monticello finished fifth.
