Blaine, Minn. (July 17, 1977) – John Stevesnon slipped by Butch Bahr on the final turn to win the 30-lap Midwest Sprint Association feature Sunday night at North Starr Speedway.
Bahr, the polesitter, led all the way but got a little high up in the fourth turn of the last lap and Stevenson, following closely behind, took advantage and went by on the inside.
Bob Geldner followed Stevenson to take second while Bahr had to be content with third place.
The race was slowed when Dan Sharon drove over the front wheel of Ron Wiuff’s sprinter, sending Sharon’s car airborne and causing it to flip several times. The car suffered severe damage, but Sharon only received cuts and bruises.
Buzz Cripe, the current point leader, led the 20-lap hobby stock feature until the last two laps, when his car lost power. That gave Joe Salner the lead and his second victory of the season at the track. Jack Harder was second and Steve Egersdorf was third.
