Davenport, Iowa (July 12, 1974) – Ron Weedon of Pleasant Valley won the mid-season championship at the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds on Friday night.

It was close-knit racing for all 30 lap as Weedon moved out in front of point leader Duane Steffe of East Moline, Ill., at the start and never gave up the lead despite Steffe being glued to Weedon’s rear bumper throughout the contest.

Weedon and Steffe ran bumper-to-bumper, door-to-door with neither driver making a mistake, which made for an exciting start to finish race for the fans. At the finish, it was Weedon by a car-length over Steffe.

John Connolly of Delhi finished third with Bill McArdle of Shullsburg, Wis., coming home in fourth.

Larry Jenkins of Wilton Junction, Connolly, and McArdle won heat races while Steffe was the semi-main winner.
