John Connolly
Waterloo, Iowa (July 11, 1965) – John Connolly of Delhi started on the pole and led all 50 laps to win the Speed Chumley Memorial mid-season championship stock car race at Tunis Speedway Sunday night before 5,575 fans.
Red Droste of Waterloo, second in points to Connolly at the halfway point, started beside Connolly, held second place for 35 laps, then dropped back to finish fourth.
Verlin Eaker of Blooming Prairie, Minn., slipped in for a second-place finish, followed by Mert Williams of Rochester, Minn., who had won the third heat earlier.
Joe Wurst of Blooming Prairie, Minn., was a double winner, copping the first heat and winning the 30-lap consolation.
