Cedar Rapids, Iowa (August 2, 1988) – Steve Kosiski of Omaha took the lead away from Ray Guss Jr. on lap 20 Tuesday night and sailed to victory in the Coors 50 NASCAR Busch All-Star Tour event at Hawkeye Downs Speedway.

Guss Jr started the feature on the pole and jumped into the lead of the 50-lap contest, which was stopped after only one lap for a multi-car crash in turn three.

Steve Kosiski was nearly a victim of that pile-up as his car rammed another in front and momentarily left the track. However, he did not stop and remained among the leaders.

Billy Moyer Jr. of Batesville, Ark., winner of the annual Miller 100 at Hawkeye Downs earlier this year, however, was scored well back for the complete restart.

With Guss Jr. holding the top spot, Kosiski passed his older brother, Joe, for second then set sail in pursuit of Guss. He made the pass of the Milan, Ill., driver and was never headed. Guss Jr. settled for second with Joe Kosiski taking the final podium spot.

After be put at the tail of the field, Moyer began working through traffic and many thought it would be a repeat of his Miller 100 exploits when he pitted at the halfway mark, then worked his way through the entire field in the final 50 laps for the win.

Moyer began picking car after car but made it no further than fourth place at the end. Willy Kraft of Lakefield, Minn., rounded out the top-five finishers.

Two 20-lap qualifying races saw Jeff Hinkemeyer of St. Cloud, Minn., take and easy win over Rick Egersdorf of St. Paul, Minn., in the first race while Joe Kosiski won the second race in a close finish over Guss Jr. and Moyer.

Moyer won the trophy dash over Joe Kosiski and Egersdorf.

Terry Gallaher of New London won the consolation race over Gary Webb of Davenport and Roger Dolan of Lisbon.

The companion modified feature was won by Brad Dubil of Davenport and the pro stock contest went to Joe Sterk of Cedar Rapids.
